OCTOBER ANGEL MEETING

PASADENA COMMUNITY CHURCH, LIFE ENRICHMENT CENTER,
227 70TH STREET SOUTH, ST PETERSBURG, FL.
8:30 – 9:30 AM
RSVP NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 8TH, 2017

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
FOR ANOTHER AMAZING MAD HATTER TEA PARTY!

The 9th Annual Child Advocacy Expo is Friday, October 6th 2017
PLEASE REGISTER TODAY IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY

This event has been a popular event for the last 8 years and our attendance is low this year! We realize that having three major hurricanes knocking at our door gave us quite a challenge in the month of September, but as we get life back to normal, we want to extend this invitation to our community partners to try to make this valuable networking event. Please help us get the word out since this event is this Friday! We will announce during this year’s Expo, the 2018 date so everyone can get it on their calendars. We will also be asking your support to get other agencies that have not attended in the past to get involved. There is nothing more beneficial than TEAM WORK and especially when it deals with children and youth. When we all pool our resources and work together, the impact is much greater and we can accomplish more together than apart! The Angels need your SUPPORT.

For those that will be participating this Friday, please note that there will be NO assigned tables like past years and NO passport. Instead, to make it easy on everyone, when you check in, just find an empty table for all your material to setup. Every table will have one ticket already on the table when you arrive which will be used for the $500 donation drawing from Angels Against Abuse. So hang on to that ticket in case you are the lucky winner! Please note…
ONLY participants representing their agency is eligible for the drawing.

We look forward to seeing you this Friday.

Thank you

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS FOR MAKING
THE MAD HATTER TEA PARTY
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT!

September 23rd, 2017 was another spectacular day for the hundreds of children who ran through the Rabbit Hole to a magical event, our famous Mad Hatter Tea Party. It was another goose bump moment for all of us who participated and had a chance to experience the smiles on the faces of the children who often have little to smile about! This could not have happened without the many volunteers who showed up to make everything perfect. I would like to personally thank Kathy Mitcheson for her tireless energy in chairing this event for so many years. Also, Christina Wyckoff returned this year and helped to make all the details fall into place perfectly. A BIG thank you to our Volunteer Coordinator Jennifer McGarry who made sure everyone knew what they were doing and made sure they were doing what they were assigned to do. There were so many wonderful volunteers and kids helping kids, like Admiral Farragut and The Kind Mouse, and Bella’s School and so many more.

What WONDERFUL NEWS to hear at the event that the Sunshine Kiwanis Club of St Petersburg announcing that they will be taking over this event as we move forward. Thank you so much Allen Yergovich for making this happen, and also thank you so much for Sunshine Kiwanis giving us years of Hat Making fun for the hundreds of kids who attend this event. It is one of our most popular activities that you have provided for so many years. When the announcement was made that they will keep our Mad Hatter going for the hundreds of children that look forward to this event every year, there was a lot of cheering and clapping from all of our guests who look forward to this event every year. This is such a gift to the Angels, and a HUGE compliment that Kiwanis feels this event provides such an impact on these children that they believe in it enough to keep it going! ALL the Angels will be there for whatever you need to volunteer our services. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

WHAT A BIRTHDAY WISH COME TRUE FOR ME! On my Birthday, September 23rd, my last day as the Mad Hatter! It was a bitter sweet moment for me, to pass the baton to a new Mad Hatter, we don’t know who yet, but have some ideas cooking. It was an amazing Birthday Gift for me as I bid my farewell as the Crazy Mad Hatter!! . Thank you for the honor to bring smiles to these little ones and create memories for years to come. Best of all, It is not over for the next Mad Hatter…

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU BJ’S RESTAURANT
The food was perfect for the kids, BEST Ever!

Thank you Jennifer McGarry for making this happen!

THE MAD HATTER TEA PARTY 2017!
MARK YOUR CALENDAR TO PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE
AND JOY IN YOUR HEART!
SEPTEMBER 23RD 2017
DOWNTOWN ST PETERSBUG COLISEUM
2-5 PM

It is not too late to sponsor an activity or a child. The match is still going on and as of this writing, we have received $1150 and with the Angel Match, the total is $2300. This event has been a huge success over the past six years and has brought a lot of joy and smiles to the children who have attended this event. These children often have something to smile about, BUT for this one amazing afternoon, every September, they can forget their tough times and have the opportunity to make memories, to laugh, sing, dance, eat, enjoy activities and interact with 9 amazing characters. This is a day designed just for them, and this is what the Angels call our “Goose Bump Day”!

Since this is year is our final Mad Hatter Tea Party, we want to make sure that these children have an opportunity to enjoy this magical experience. We rely on our Community Partners to make sure we get some new faces and fill this huge room with children anxious to see what we have in store for them. For those community partners that we are working with to fill the tables, please make sure you email me with your table count no later than Friday, September 8th. PLEASE note that we are asking every agency who will be participating at this event to have a representative from your agency in attendance to make sure they help with the children and families they have selected to attend so we can make sure everything runs smoothly. Although it is too early to share, we may have some good news to share in the next few months which may impact future Mad Hatter Tea Parties, but right now it is premature.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU BJ’S RESTAURANT

The Angels would like to give a BIG Shout Out to BJ’s Restaurant!

We just learned on Thursday, August 31st, that BJ’s Restaurant will be providing all the food, drinks and dessert for this event. This is HUGE since this has been one of the bigger expenses incurred in previous years of the Mad Hatter Tea Parties. We met with Andy Giraldo, Senior Manager, BJ’s and he chose a child friendly menu that everyone will enjoy. Andy, from the bottom of our HEARTS, thank you so much for the generosity of BJ’s doing this, and especially thank you for bringing staff to serve the food and help with the event. This is an amazing gift and so appreciated!

Thank you Jennifer McGarry for making this happen! You ROCK…

THE ANGEL CENTER IS OFFICIAL
WE OPENED OUR DOORS AUGUST 14TH 2017
This is the HOPE Room (Infant to 6 years old)

Monday, August 14, 2017, the Angel Center opened its doors for visitations. It was a slow start, but the visitations are beginning to happen. Every child and their parent that is doing their visitations at the Center, walk in with smiles on their faces as soon as they see our Lobby. As the door opens into the Angel Center, they are escorted to their visitation room that is appropriate for their specific age group with toys, games, DVD’s and snack to make their visits more meaningful with their hopes of being reunited with their parents. The walls of every room is decorated with the main characters from the Dolphin Tale Movie, Winter, Hope, Rufus, Mavis and Cooper with careful detail to every room according to their age. The Angels wanted to make sure they paid attention to every detail that we could think of to make these rooms special for our guests and make these visits more worthwhile for both the child and the parent.

Andrea Cowart does our visitation scheduling and so much more to make the rooms ready for the visits. If anyone would like to have a tour of this facility, please contact me below and I will arrange for one around the visits. In order to assure that these rooms are ready between visits, it will be the responsibility of the case managers who supervise the visits, to make sure the rooms are put back in the same condition as they were when they walked into the rooms.

Over a hundred Angels, Friends and Community Partners joined us July 21st, 2017 for our Ribbon Cutting Dedication Ceremony. It was an AWESOME event and if you missed it, please visit our website below and take a peek at our beautiful facility! Everyone who walked through the doors had a smile from the time they walked in until they left. The Angels paid attention to every detail for each of the three rooms to make sure they were perfect when our welcomed guests arrive. The Hope Room is for the infant to six years old, Winter Room, 7 to 12, Rufus Room, 13 to 18 and even a meeting room called Mavis where visiting parents and their children can enjoy a snack or if a meeting is needed, this room is perfect. Since we are sharing this facility with Ready For Life, it is our plan to make this facility a multi-function Center for other Agencies to use for meetings or training. We will officially be opening our doors to visitations starting Monday, August 14th 2017, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm! PLEASE RSVP IF YOU WILL BE ATTENDING OUR ANGEL MEETING SO WE CAN MAKE SURE THE ROOM IS SET UP PROPERLY.

IT IS GOING TO BE ANOTHER FANTASTIC YEAR FOR THE ANGELS…

WHAT A HUGE SUCCESS
THANK YOU FOR COMING TO OUR
RIBBON CUTTING / DEDICATION CEREMONY
THE CATIZONE ANGEL CENTER

For scheduling Visitations, contact Andrea Cowart at [email protected] or phone: 727 742-4909

Special Thanks to Al & Susie Bennati for all they have done to help the Angels make their dream a reality, because of their very special relationship with two very special individuals who loved children and wanted to make a difference, Nick and Kay Catizone!

If you would like to have a tour, please join us on August 10th, 2017 from 5-7 PM for the Open House for Ready For Life where you can have an opportunity to see both facilities and you can see first-hand why this partnership is such a good match for our community and the children and youth we advocate for 24/7. Please rsvp if you would like to attend. If you want to attend the Open House, please contact either Kathy Mize Plummer or Sandy Kearney:

“If you can Dream it, You can Do It!”

The Angel Visitation Center is scheduled to open its’ doors for Visitations starting August 2017. This Center is conveniently located near both Eckerd Community Alternatiives and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and many of our Community Partners for ease and convenience to the all the parties that impact a child’s life while in Foster Care.

This Center will be a place where children and their families will visit who are in the process of reunification. When they walk through the doors of this Center, the Angels want them to not only feel welcome but we want to instantly put a smile on their face! It is the Angel Way of doing things and making a difference in the lives of the children and youth we advocate for 24/7. PRESS RELEASE

Ribbon Cutting / Dedication Ceremony
The Angel Center

Please join us July 21, 2017 at 9 AM for the ribbon cutting and dedication of The Angel Center! “It’s been a vision the Angels of to have a place for children to have hope for a better tomorrow and break the pattern of abuse” says Sandy Kearney, president of Angels Against Abuse, a 100 percent volunteer non-profit dedicated to meeting the many needs of foster children in Pinellas County.

Located at 2300 Tall Pines Drive, Suite 100 in Largo, The Angel Center is a cheerful, child-friendly environment thanks to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium who have donated their time and their talent to make this facility a place that children will want to visit.
“Eckerd Community Alternatives would like to thank Angels Against Abuse for The Angels Center. The visitation center will provide more visitation opportunities for the children and families that we serve daily. Because of our partnership with Angels Against Abuse and a vision of Sandy Kearney, this is the first free Visitation Center of its kind.” (Brian Bostick, Executive Director, Eckerd Community Alternatives, Pinellas and Pasco)

The Angel Center is “A place of joy to soothe a child’s hurting heart and turn tears into smiles” says Laurallyn Segur, Director of Foster Care Licensing and Recruitment at Eckerd Community Alternatives. Sandy Kearney adds, “Thanks to the generous donation of Nick and Kay Catizone, The Clearwater Marine Aquarium and The BrewHaHa Foundation, the Angels’ 10 year vision has become a reality!”

The need for the Angel Center is dire and long overdue. Please join us!

We Need YOUR Help!

PLEASE SPONSOR A CHILD – $50 PUTS A SMILE ON A FACE….

We need your help! As everyone knows from last week’s EMAIL Blast, the Angels are on the move and we have a lot going on. I know it is summer and everyone is taking a little break, catching their breath and doing a little R&R which is AWESOME! However, we have some major events approaching that we need to start gearing up for and we need your help in getting the word out! All of our events are right at your fingertips with all the details, just below. All you have to do is click on the appropriate button and just like magic, you have reached your destination.

Our next major Angel event is our famous Mad Hatter Tea Party. This year we have had to cut our budget for this event due to the many programs that we provide to children and youth who have been victims of abuse and their many needs. Also, as you know, we are launching our newest project, the Angel Visitation Center, which is very exciting and will impact children’s lives daily who are trying to be reunified with their parents. We are still planning to have thee Mad Hatter Tea Party for these kids so they can walk away with a memory that they can hold on to forever. It is hard to put a price tag on a memory because it is not something you can touch, but rather you can only see when these children run through the amazing Rabbit Hole we have created for them into a magical afternoon of nothing but pure fun and excitement. If every Angel on our email blast distribution list would sponsor one child, we would be able to create this magical experience for them with no problem at all! It is like eating an elephant one bite at a time with everyone working together as one. To sponsor a child is only $50 which could be shared by two people or if you were unable to sponsor, maybe you have a family member or friend that could write that check. Let’s start the challenge TODAY and see how quickly we can make this happen. The clock is ticking because September 23rd is right around the corner. If you are able to meet this challenge, you can write a check payable to Angels Against Abuse, Inc. 5404 Leilani Drive, St Pete Beach, FL 33706 or you can pay via PayPal. Every dollar makes a difference and every child needs to smile, even if only for an afternoon. You never know the impact you will be making. Thank you in advance for helping us to help them!!!

Angels to the rescue!

Angels to the rescue!

The Sheriff’s CPI office was in need of clothing and food for children displaced from their homes. The Angels gathered together at Walmart to fill five carts with children’s clothes and shoes to donate along with a gift card for food. Many displaced children are removed in an emergency situation and, they leave their homes with very few personal items.

Poem written by a young Angel

Poem written by a young Angel

Giving is Living

Once I went to a Mad Hatter Tea
It was a volunteer event for my mom and me
I met lots of kids
Who made lots of “lids” (Mad Hatter “hats”)
It felt so good to give my time,
afterwards I felt better than fine.
I hope I can give or help again,
and I am glad I started when I am only 10.
It felt so good to give and give,
I plan to do it as long as I live.
-Sophia Bakshi        2015
