11th Annual Child Advocacy Expo
Thursday, August 4th, 2022 – 9 am to 1:00 pm
Pinellas Realtor Organization
4590 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater, FL

The Angels are thrilled to host our 11th Annual Child Advocacy Expo. Not only is this a networking opportunity for our community partners, but it is an opportunity to gain experience about all the resources we have in our community that are making a difference in the lives of the children and families we advocate for 24/7.

We will have a special guest speaker, Shevaun Harris who is the Secretary of the Department of Children and Families, and introducing our new lead agency, Family Support Systems of North Florida. You will not want to miss this opportunity to gain experience about the changes in the child welfare system and the importance of our community partners being part of the solution. It takes each of us to work as a TEAM to have a greater impact on the children we advocate for.

The vision of this event continues to be focused on bringing together local agencies, charities and organizations involved in the child welfare system. It will be a morning of networking and information sharing. It is our hope to have all major players involved in this event which is why we are specifically requesting your participation. The Angels feel strongly about collaborating our efforts and working as a TEAM to accomplish more for the children we advocate for. Together we can truly be effective in their lives.
We will start the morning with a meet and greet of the local agencies. You will visit each of their tables and learn more about what is going on in our community that are affecting children’s lives and the many resources needed for their support. You will have an opportunity to introduce your agency to the group at the podium for a two-minute talk about your mission. Secretary Harris will take the podium to introduce herself and talk about moving forward and making changes. The remainder of the morning presentation will be followed by booth-time so that attendees can share materials about their organization and learn about the many resources available in our community. For every community agency attending, there will be an opportunity to enter a drawing to win a $500 donation from the Angels. These tickets will be provided at check-in. You must have a table assignment to be eligible.

PLEASE GET YOUR REGISTRATION FORMS IN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! OUR VENUE IS LIMITED TO 50 TABLES AND WE WANT TO INCLUDE AS MANY RESOURCES AS POSSIBLE. SOME AGENCIES MAY HAVE TO SHARE A TABLE.

If you are attending as a guest or student, please register as well so we know how many attendees will be participating. Please feel free to contact Sandy

ABOUT SECRETARY, SHEVAUN HARRIS

Shevaun Harris joined the Department of Children and Families as the Secretary in February 2021 after a two-decade career at the Agency for Health Care Administration. Prior to joining DCF, Secretary Harris served as Acting Secretary at the Agency for Health Care Administration where she was responsible for administering the Florida Medicaid program and regulating over 40,000 licensed health care facilities in the state. She also led the Agency’s COVID-19 efforts in partnership with other state agencies and essential health care providers. Secretary Harris has held positions in the health and human services field, providing services to children and adults diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and children receiving services in an inpatient psychiatric program. During her tenure at the AHCA, Secretary Harris led the development of all Medicaid policies and implementation of the agency’s quality improvement initiatives with particular focus on perinatal and behavioral health outcomes. She joined DCF in early 2021 and has made holistic care for families a priority by strategically working to integrate systems and services. She has joined First Lady Casey DeSantis in launching Hope Florida – A Pathway to Prosperity, a personalized approach to helping families overcome barriers to self-sufficiency through community collaboration. Secretary Harris continues to drive innovative prevention and early intervention efforts through the work of the Department and Community Partners.

We are looking forward to a successful event and hope our partners will attend. Many potential donors also attend this event since it is a wonderful way for them to have one on one time with our community leaders.

OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH THESE FAMILIES IN UVALDE, TEXAS
MAY 25TH, 2022 WAS A TRAGIC DAY IN OUR COUNTRY.
WE MOURN THE LOSS OF THESE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN AND TEACHERS.

The loss of a child is likely the greatest tragedy on earth and no parent can fathom the loss of a child, no matter what age the child is. May 25th 2022 was a tragic day in our country when a young man filled rage and hate took the lives of 19 little children and 2 wonderful teachers. Our prayers and thoughts go out to this community and the families for their lost ones. These lives are changed forever and this is a time for our country to come together as one and pray of these families. God has 21 Angels in His care that are looking down on all of us.

God Bless these families.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE MENTORS AND LEADERS AT FRIENDS OF THE CHILDREN TAMPA BAY FOR YOUR 12.5 YEAR COMMITMENT TO THE CHILDREN YOU ADVOCATE FOR ALL YEAR LONG

The Angels have partnered with Friends of the Children Tampa Bay for over seven years and we have had the opportunity to see the difference that these mentors are making in the children’s lives that they mentor for 12.5 years. This program allows a child to know there is a stable person in their life that can change their journey. These mentors are heroes to these children and the Angels want to thank each and every one of them for their support and guidance to these children.

YOUR ARE HEROES

OUR OPPORTUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM IS A HUGE SUCCESS.

The Angels are putting smiles on the faces of children in our community with our partnership with Hero to a Child for the Opportunity Outreach Program. As these requests for the little things that make a difference in a child’s life come in, we fill them immediately with the hope that we are making a difference in this child’s life. This outreach program allows these children an outlet to build friendships, social skills and feel like any other normal child which will change their lives and give them HOPE for a better tomorrow..

The Angels partnered with Directions for Living approximately ten years and we have seen first-hand the impact they have had in our community. April Lott serves as the President & CEO of the local nonprofit Directions for Living and has for nearly 15 years. Her impact goes well beyond the work she does in that role. She is an incredible force for good. She is a fierce advocate for children, a relentless giver of altruistic time and talent and energy, and a true leader in the field of social services.

PINELLAS AND PASCO NEW LEAD AGENCY – FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES

Family Preservation

The number of children entering out of home care has decreased for four consecutive months! We’re grateful for the ongoing partnership with our counterparts at both Sheriffs offices, as well as our contracted and community partners, as we work toward a shared goal of keeping more children safely at home. In the last four months, the number of children removed in Pasco and Pinellas Counties has been:

  • January – 131
  • February – 109
  • March – 99
  • April – 83

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO

The Angels have been working with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, CPI Division for over 13 years and we have provided many programs that have made a difference in the lives of the children and youth we advocate for 24/7 addressing the needs requested by this division of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. The investigators of the Child Protection Investigation Department work tirelessly to keep children safe while at the same time make their transition in the child welfare system as comfortable as possible.

The Angels have been partners with Healthy Start PAT Program for approximately six years providing infant needs and adopting families through our Christmas Giving Program. We have been a part of the impact that this organization has on the new moms and their babies over the years we have been a part of this program. Thank you to the staff and leaders of Healthy Start for all you do to give these little babies a healthy start.

The Kind Mouse has filled over 681,000 tummies. Thank you Gina for your hard work and all your mice helpers.

Happy Birthday Kind Mouse! You have touched so many children’s lives in the past 10 years.

YOU ARE A HERO!
